Rendimopeedid jõuavad Tallinnas sel nädalal liiklusse
Rental mopeds will hit the streets of Tallinn this week
Tallinnas algab rendimopeedide kasutamine. Linnavalitsuses on erinevad arvamused nende ohutuse kohta.
The use of rental mopeds begins in Tallinn. The city government has different opinions about their safety.
Rental mopeds will arrive on the streets of Tallinn in the middle of this week. Initially, it was supposed to happen last week, but due to bad weather, it was postponed. The company Ride Mobility is bringing a thousand mopeds to Tallinn. They will be rented out all at once. The mopeds will be located in the parking areas for electric scooters.
Opinions in the city government are not the same. Deputy Mayor Pärtel-Peeter Pere said that mopeds are good, but the city's task is to ensure their safety. He believes that the city government did not pay attention to the speed of the mopeds and where they are allowed to ride.
But Deputy Mayor Kristjan Järvan disagrees. In his opinion, mopeds are safer than cargo bikes. He says that the rules for mopeds in Estonia are stricter than, for example, in Latvia or Lithuania. For instance, mopeds in Estonia are not allowed to ride on sidewalks.
The city of Tallinn has made new rules. These rules determine where and how mopeds are allowed to ride. The city government can now impose restrictions on their speed and parking.
Both parties are involved. The Reform Party faction called on Järvan to report. They believe that mopeds must be safe for pedestrians. Isamaa demanded a legislative change so that the city could limit the number of mopeds.
Center Party member Monika Haukanõmm said that Mayor Jevgeni Ossinovski must deal with this issue. In her opinion, the mayor does not remember how his subordinates work. Haukanõmm said that the mayor is responsible for the safety of the city.
