Ministeerium otsib ERR-i uusi rahastamisvõimalusi
The Ministry is seeking new financing options for ERR
Kultuuriminister Heidy Purga räägib ERR-i rahastamisest ja võimalikest muudatustest.
Minister of Culture Heidy Purga discusses the financing of ERR and potential changes.
Minister of Culture Heidy Purga wants to discuss the financing of ERR with the Ministry of Finance. The current financing method is not good according to European laws.
The head of the European Broadcasting Union, Noel Curran, has a good opinion of ERR. He says that ERR is trustworthy, but there is not enough money. Due to security and misinformation, Estonia needs a strong broadcasting service.
ERR's director Erik Roose says that due to inflation, there is less money than before. If nothing changes, ERR may suspend some services.
A new financing method will come with a change in the law. A European regulation requires it. Some countries have already received a reprimand for not following the law. Curran does not want Estonia to get a reprimand too.
There are several options for financing. The widespread Western European media tax is not being discussed in Estonia. The Lithuanian model is under discussion.
The Lithuanian model works like this: ERR receives money from last year's taxes. For example, a percentage of personal income tax is allocated. This provides money and certainty.
Purga says it is still too early to decide. She wants to discuss the financing of ERR with the Minister of Finance in a couple of weeks.
