Postal service prices will increase by an average of one-fifth. Sending a regular letter now costs 1.5 euros, previously it was 1.3 euros. Sending an express letter costs 2.6 euros, previously it was 2.3 euros. The prices for international letters and parcels will increase by an average of 14% and 23%.
The Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture says the price increase is not a threat. On average, an Estonian sends less than one letter or postcard per year. Minister Terras says the price increase will help Eesti Post. It will improve the company's financial situation and ensure good postal service.
The price increase will reduce Eesti Post's losses. It will allow the continuation of sending letters and parcels throughout Estonia. The regulation will enter into force on the third day after its publication in the State Gazette. Eesti Post must notify customers of the price changes.
The ministry is preparing changes to the Postal Act. The goal is to change the postal service financing model. Eesti Post operates under the Omniva brand. The company is licensed to provide postal services in Estonia and internationally. The universal postal service provider is selected for five years. The current contract with Eesti Post is valid until 2029.
