The Estonian government is redirecting 195 million euros to defense. This money was previously planned for climate measures and waste management. Now it will go to the defense industry and road construction.
Estonia received 3.4 billion euros from the European Union for seven years. Three-quarters of this money has already been used. The remaining 195 million euros will now be directed to defense.
The Ministry of Climate is redirecting 85 million euros to defense. The Ministry of Education and Research is redirecting 38 million euros. Other ministries are also redirecting smaller amounts. The money will also go to updating court heating and other defense-related purposes.
79 million euros will be directed to road construction. This will help the military move faster. For example, the Tallinn-Pärnu-Ikla road and the Tallinn-Tartu road will be built.
Basic infrastructure will be established in Ermistu for the defense industry. This includes roads, electricity, and water. 20 million euros will go to building reception and defense infrastructure for allies.
Estonia must use all the funds allocated to the sectors by the end of 2030. New investments will be discussed with the European Commission. New projects may start in 2026.
