A large military base is being built in Narva. The city council is providing land for this purpose. The base will accommodate 1,000 soldiers.
Most of the land already belonged to the city. The council has agreed to the establishment of the military base. Two years ago, there was no consensus in Narva.
Narva mayor Katri Raik says that no one wants to be left out. Many people want to be under pressure.
Narva received 378,000 euros for the plot of land. The construction of a rental building is being considered in the city center. Construction will begin at the end of this year.
The center is awaiting price offers in August or September. The construction of the base is planned to cost 16 million euros.
The first 150 soldiers will move into a temporary base at the beginning of next year. The main base will be completed later. It will permanently house 200 soldiers. The base will accommodate a total of 1,000 soldiers.
The military base will be completed in the summer of 2028.
