Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna says he was aware of Jonatan Vseviov's plans to enter politics. He wasn't surprised.
Tsahkna did not comment on why Vseviov joined the Social Democrats. He said such choices should be explained by Vseviov himself.
According to the law, Vseviov didn't have to resign from his position. Tsahkna said he didn't force Vseviov to do so.
Tsahkna said they discussed the matter and Vseviov wished to resign voluntarily. As of November 1st, Vseviov is no longer the chancellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Tsahkna has some thoughts on who the new chancellor could be. He said this person definitely doesn't have to come from within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The new chancellor must understand foreign policy and be an expert. They must know how foreign policy is handled in Estonia.
The chancellor must collaborate with various people: the parliament, the president, the Ministry of Defense, and international partners.
