On September 15, the police detained two young men in Rakvere. They are suspected of drug-related crimes. Evidence suggests that they acted as couriers and placed drugs in caches across Estonia. The men had over 450 caches.
The police know that the suspects came from Tallinn to Rakvere by car on the same day. They weighed and packaged the drugs into suitable quantities. Then they placed about 200 grams of cocaine at a given location in Rakvere.
During the investigation, it has been revealed that the suspects may be linked to drug caches found in Lääne-Viru County, Tallinn, Rapla, Viljandi, and Jõhvi. There are over 450 caches.
In recent weeks, the police have checked cache locations across Estonia. They have found drugs in more than 300 caches. The police have confiscated several kilograms of drugs from the caches and after searches. For example, cocaine, cannabis, amphetamine, and MDMA.
Rainet Juuse, head of the Ida Prefecture Criminal Bureau, said that the police are investigating how the suspects operated. The police involved officers across Estonia in identifying the caches. Today we know that the suspects were recruited as drug couriers on the Telegram app. The investigation will determine how and where they obtained the drugs and who gave them the tasks.
District Prosecutor Kalmer Kase said that the suspects have not been imprisoned before. He noted that increasingly young adults and people with addiction problems are being used in criminal chains.
The investigation is being conducted by the Ida Prefecture and led by the Viru District Prosecutor's Office.
