Some Rimi stores have signs saying that packaged milk is not available. The reason for this is supply problems. In Estonia, packaged milk is produced by two companies: Valio and Maag Food. Maag Food sells packaged milk under the Farm brand.
Valio's manager Maido Solovjov says that Maag Food has reduced production. This has led to increased demand for Valio products. Valio cannot increase milk production so quickly because new equipment is needed.
Solovjov says Valio is already operating at full capacity. Maag Food started reducing production about two weeks ago. At that time, stores started asking Valio for packaged milk.
Maag Food's manager Kerstin Musting says they have less milk because farmers are supplying less. This is related to new feed.
Will packaged milk disappear from Estonia? Solovjov thinks not. He believes packaged milk will remain on the market but may become more expensive. Currently, packaged milk has been very cheap. Stores have been selling it cheaply to attract customers.
