Lastekodu street in Tallinn has recently been reconstructed. This has sparked much debate on social media. For example, people complain about car parking, although parking is allowed in some places.
Deputy Mayor of Tallinn Kristjan Järvan says that Lastekodu street is a novel example of urban space approach. It shows how new ideas work in the real world. Järvan says such projects will not be used in the future.
Järvan added that Lastekodu street is record-breaking in terms of paving. It required many skilled workers to build. This also increased the cost. For example, Vana-Kalamaja street cost about 10 million euros, while Lastekodu street cost about 6 million euros.
Järvan says new solutions should calm traffic. But on Lastekodu street, they have caused confusion. He says confusion and dangerous situations are not a good solution. They do not make traffic safer.
