The waste reform is changing the lives of people and waste management companies. The Riigikogu discussed amendments to the Waste Act. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry made proposals, but they were not discussed.
Representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry were not invited to the session on September 25. Marko Udras said that their proposals are not being considered. The Environmental Committee made changes, but the chamber's proposals are missing.
The chairman of the Riigikogu Environmental Committee, Yoko Alender, said that not all proposals can be taken into account. What matters is whether we support waste collection.
The head of the Food Union, Sirje Potisepp, said that the costs of packaging collection will triple. This will affect food prices. A major problem is the capacity for recycling.
We only have 30% sorting capacity. If we do not reach the EU target, it could cost millions. Alender said that glass and paper recycling exists. There is little sorted material from plastic.
