Elmar Vaher is the former director general of the Police and Border Guard Board. He says he hired Eerik Heldna because of his skills. The Supreme Court stated that Vaher's decisions were correct.
Vaher does not understand why a criminal case was initiated against him. He is wanted by Russia but does not know why Estonia did this. He asks why the prosecutor's office and the Security Police acted this way.
The Supreme Court said that Vaher's behavior was not a crime, but it may have been unfair. Heldna received a police pension, but others in the same situation did not.
Vaher says his decision was correct. He hired employees from the foreign intelligence service and Heldna only later. He emphasized that Heldna's skills were very good.
Vaher said that Heldna is a very knowledgeable person. He has worked as the head of the criminal police and as the founder of the narcotics police. He believes everyone would want such a person on their team.
The Supreme Court left unchanged the decision that acquitted Vaher, Heldna, and Aivar Alavere of the charges.
