When the next EU budget (2028-2034) is adopted, Estonia will receive more money from it than it contributes.
Estonia will receive 6.5 billion euros from the first part of the budget. This amount will be used for the development of areas such as the environment, education, and social affairs.
In addition, Estonia will receive an additional 810 million euros for internal security. This is ten times more than the current support.
1.6 billion euros will be allocated to agriculture. This is less than currently, but the difference can be covered with additional funds.
Funding from the second part of the budget will be obtained through competition. Estonia will receive money from this for projects such as the construction of Rail Baltica.
Estonia could receive a total of nearly 10 billion euros. Estonia itself will contribute 4.8 billion euros to the budget.
The third and fourth parts of the budget are not directly related to Estonia. They are intended for the EU's external action and administration.
The EU budget is funded by member states and EU own resources. The Commission proposes adding new taxes, such as plastic and carbon taxes.
During the current budget period (2021-2027), Estonia will receive 6.8 billion euros and contribute 2.6 billion euros.
Discussions on the new budget will begin at the end of this year. An agreement is expected by the summer of 2027.
