On Saturday, many people gathered in Pärnu. They came to the first Pärnu County Christmas song festival. There were children's, girls', women's and mixed choirs present.
300 singers performed on stage. They came from Pärnu and Pärnu County. Artistic director Margrit Kits said that everyone wanted to come. There were even more applicants.
Christmas song festival organizer Kristi Raidla said that the Pärnu Christmas market has been taking place for seven years now. Every year, choirs have performed there. Raidla said they thought: "Let's organize a Christmas song festival!" After all, song festivals are very popular.
The winter song festival aims to bring joy through collective singing. The audience was invited to sing along. The repertoire included both old and new songs. There were also well-known Christmas carols that everyone knows.
Margrit Kits said that most of the songs are such that people can joyfully sing along. The organizers hope this will become a tradition. Raidla said: "We are learning and trying. If this succeeds, we will do it again next year."
