The Estonian state fleet received a new ship on Wednesday. The vessel cost 22 million euros. It is 38 meters long.
The ship runs on biomethane. Biomethane is a green fuel. The ship has multiple functions: it installs sea marks, conducts research, and helps clean up pollution.
The ship was named Kratt. Kratt is a multifunctional vessel. It was built at the Nasva shipyard. The ship uses biomethane and is technologically very advanced.
Andres Laasma, director general of the state fleet, said the ship demonstrates which technologies are reliable. He added that Estonia has a future in fuel production.
Margus Vanaselja, chairman of the board of Baltic Workboats, said Estonia and Baltic Workboats are capable of executing complex projects. He mentioned that the ship could be sold to Norway and other parts of the world.
Captain Sander Laus said that Kratt is more comfortable and technically superior to older ships. He noted that the vessel makes work easier.
The previous state ship was built eight years ago. The next ferry is expected to be completed in two years. It will run on electricity.
