Kuku Radio's management is making changes. Editor-in-chief Madis Kimmel will no longer work from the new year. Instead, a new position called development manager will be created.
Toomas Vara will take up the position of development manager. He has previously worked on various projects at Duo Media. However, the editor-in-chief position will be completely eliminated.
Priit Vare, head of Duo Media radio stations, told ERR that the changes are necessary when looking to the future. He said that Kuku Radio wants to be a place where all audio content comes together.
Vare added that there are currently no plans for many personnel changes. However, the program will be reviewed. It may happen that some shows are added or the time slot changes.
In addition, Kuku Radio will also change its broadcasting. FM broadcasting will be discontinued in some regions. This will happen in areas where there are few listeners and digital broadcasting is already good.
For example, in Narva, Võru, Valga, Haapsalu, and Rakvere, FM broadcasting will no longer be used. About 90% of listeners will not notice this change.
Vare said that digital radio is already in many new cars. But people who use old radios will not be able to listen to Kuku.
To help people get used to digital radios, a campaign will be launched. People are encouraged to give radios as Christmas gifts to their parents. The campaign will be promoted more in December.
FM transmitters will be discontinued from January 15, 2024. Vare believes that the number of listeners may initially decrease, but then it will start to rise again as people begin to use digital radios more.
