Political scientist Tõnis Saarts says that the new quadruple alliance in Tallinn would be tense. Isamaa would find it difficult to be noticeable there.
Saarts believes that Isamaa would justify its cooperation with the Centre Party to its voters for two reasons. First, they say it's better for city management. Second, they want to preserve Estonian identity and limit the misuse of power by the Centre Party.
Saarts believes that Isamaa and the Centre Party will find agreement on key issues. For example, on Estonian-language education and Russian culture. However, they won't make any new radical decisions.
Joining the quadruple alliance would be a value-based choice for Isamaa. But it would be difficult to govern in this alliance, and Isamaa would be less visible.
Saarts says that this coalition would not differ much from the previous one. There would be a lot of discord and risk of disintegration. He believes it won't last long. Ultimately, Isamaa will have to choose cooperation with the Centre Party or remain in opposition.
The Social Democrats and the Centre Party have offered coalition negotiations to Isamaa. Isamaa will discuss these offers on Thursday.
