Ulla Preeden is the rector of Tartu Health Care College. She will also become Tartu's new deputy mayor.
Preeden says she wants to finish her work at the college calmly and with dignity. She plans to start her new position in April.
She has not yet participated in negotiating the coalition agreement. She received the offer on Friday evening and took the weekend to think about it.
Preeden has extensive experience in the education and culture sectors. She led the education and culture committee in Räpina municipality for eight years.
The biggest current problem in Tartu's education is the opportunities for basic school graduates to continue their education.
Preeden says that children in Tartu should have the opportunity to continue their education in high school or vocational school.
Tartu plans to renovate school buildings. This plan is included in the coalition agreement.
Preeden cannot say which schools will be renovated first. It depends on funding and resources.
Preparations for the Siurusi cultural program have begun. Preeden does not yet know the exact order of implementation.
There is a political dispute in Tartu between Tõnis Lukas and Kris Kärner. Preeden says people should communicate respectfully.
She hopes all parties can cooperate. Respect is important.
