Ferry Tõll will complete dock work in Tallinn on Thursday. After that, the ship will return to the Virtsu-Kuivastu route. The ice in the Irbe Strait is very thick, so Tõll cannot pass through there without an icebreaker.
The ice is over a meter thick, and there is a lot of pack ice. Strong winds and rising water levels are making the situation even more difficult. Therefore, Tõll must choose another route.
TS Laevad is asking people not to use the ice road to Hiiumaa. The creator of the ice road says the road is closed because the weather is bad.
Tõll will depart from Tallinn on Friday morning. The ship plans to sail between Topu and Hiiumaa on Friday evening. The ferry will return to the Virtsu-Kuivastu route on Saturday.
Currently, the ships Piret and Regula are operating on the Virtsu-Kuivastu route. The ships Leiger and Tiiu are working on the Rohuküla-Heltermaa route.
