Violence and abuse of power are difficult topics. The actors of the Black Box speak about it playfully. They use sketches, music, song, and dance. They also embody pigs. The director wants people to think about power in their lives. "A pig is extreme. It is cute, intelligent, cruel, vulgar, and filthy. Power and violence also move in extremes. That's why we use pigs to talk about power," said director Jaanika Tammaru.
Several well-known texts are in the performance. For example, "Truth and Justice" and "Animal Farm". The idea began with the pigs from "Animal Farm". For instance, when the leader of the free world told a female journalist "calm down now, pig". This raises the question of who is the pig. The third theme is "The Odyssey". Circe pondered whether it is right to turn men into pigs when they come to the island. Additionally, the performance includes three piglets and the song "Train Ride," Tammaru said.
The actors also share their experiences of power abuse. "We actors live in society with our eyes open. Everyone has something that interests them about power. It could be the state's power over citizens or the power in close relationships. During rehearsals, we shared our stories," said actor Maarja Tammemägi.
