Tõnis Lukas said that talking about the mayoral position right away was a mistake. He said that first, they should discuss topics and only then personnel matters.
Lukas said that the focus should be on key issues. He believed that personnel matters would be discussed later. Martin Erik Maripuu asked Lukas whether Urmas Klaas should not become mayor. Lukas replied that topics should be discussed first.
Isamaa and the Reform Party agreed that the mayor would come from the Reform Party. However, Isamaa chairman Urmas Reinsalu said that this decision could change. Lukas said he had no conflict with Reinsalu.
The Reform Party candidate Urmas Klaas said that parties should be free in their decisions. Tõnis Lukas and Urmas Klaas also discussed an alternative coalition.
Isamaa received an offer from the Social Democratic Party. Lukas said they would not start other negotiations before the current ones were concluded.
Urmas Klaas said they had other coalition options. He said they wanted to talk honestly and treat partners with respect.
In the Tartu city council, both Isamaa and the Reform Party have 15 seats each. The Centre Party, Eesti 200, and the Social Democratic Party also received seats. Tõnis Lukas received 4362 votes in the elections, and Urmas Klaas received 5485 votes.
