Tallinn City Council decided to purchase a former ministry building from Riigi Kinnisvara AS. The building is located at Lai Street 39/41. This building will be given to VHK to solve space problems.
Additionally, Tallinn will purchase plot 66 on Liikuri Street from the state. A new public sports field will be built there.
Tallinn will not pay money to RKAS. In return, Tallinn will give five of its properties. Four properties are located in Lasnamäe, one in the Old Town at Lai Street 17. This building houses the applied art and design museum.
According to the draft, the cost of the purchased and sold properties is equal. In total it is 6,178,500 euros.
The price of the building at Lai Street 39/41 is 5.7 million euros. This price is lower than expert estimates. The City Property Department's estimate was 6.4 million euros and RKAS's estimate was 6.9 million euros.
Tallinn City Government approved the purchase of the building a couple of weeks ago. Deputy Mayor Andrei Kante said the building will help VHK and improve the school's facilities.
"Tallinn's task is to create good conditions for schools. VHK has done excellent work and the building would provide even better facilities," said Kante.
Currently, VHK music school hobby groups remain in temporary facilities. A better solution will be found in the future.
The size of the building at Lai Street 39/41 is approximately 7,750 square meters. Plans include establishing a VHK elementary school section, small classes, hobby activities and support functions there. The school will accommodate approximately 670 students.
