Elroni juht: mõnel suunal kasvab reisijate arv hinnatõusust hoolimata
Head of Elron: Passenger Numbers Grow on Some Routes Despite Price Increases
Elroni juht Lauri Betlem räägib rongipiletite hindadest ja reisijate eelistustest. Ta selgitab, miks mõnel suunal kasvab reisijate arv, kuigi hinnad on tõusnud.
The head of Elron, Lauri Betlem, talks about train ticket prices and passenger preferences. He explains why the number of passengers is increasing on some routes despite price increases.
The head of Elron, Lauri Betlem, says that people choose trains over other means of transport more because of the quality of service than the price. For example, the number of passengers is growing on the western route to Tallinn, while ticket prices on the Valga route have decreased.
Nädalavahetusel oli sotsiaalmeedias arutelu rongipiletite hindade üle. Ettevõtja Tõnu Runnel kirjutas, et Eesti rongipiletid on nüüd Euroopa viie kõige kallima riigi hulgas. Näiteks maksab neljaliikmeline pere Tartust Tallinna ja tagasi sõitmiseks 130 eurot. Autoga oleks sama sõit maksnud 30 eurot.

Over the weekend, there was a discussion on social media about train ticket prices. Entrepreneur Tõnu Runnel wrote that Estonian train tickets are now among the five most expensive in Europe. For example, a family of four would pay 130 euros to travel from Tartu to Tallinn and back. The same trip by car would cost 30 euros.

Betlem ütles, et viimase
viie aasta jooksul

Betlem said that train ticket prices have increased three times in the last five years, by an average of 10 percent. The reason for the price increase is high costs and budget cuts. Ticket revenue covers only one-third of all costs, with the rest of the money coming from the government.

Betlem selgitas, et
hinnad sõltuvad nõudlusest

Betlem explained that prices depend on demand. If demand is high, prices are raised more. If there is little demand and people cannot pay more, prices are not raised or are even lowered. For example, prices on the Tallinn-Valga line have decreased significantly.

Betlem ütles, et reisijad valivad rongi rohkem
teenuse kvaliteedi pärast

Betlem said that passengers choose trains more because of the quality of service than the price. For example, the number of passengers is growing on the western route to Tallinn, where trains run frequently. From Keila, you can reach Tallinn every 20 minutes, and during peak hours, even every 10 minutes.

There have been many repair works on the Tallinn-Tartu and Tallinn-Narva directions in recent years. This has worsened the quality of service and the number of passengers has decreased. Traveling by train takes more time, and it is faster by car or bus.

Elron loodab, et kui Tallinna-Tartu lõigu remont lõpeb, saab ronge lisada. Rongid selleks on juba olemas. Betlem ütles ka, et praegu pole plaanis uut hinnatõusu, kuid sügise
eelarveprotsess võib olukorda muuta

Elron hopes that when the Tallinn-Tartu section repair is completed, additional trains can be added. The trains for this are already available. Betlem also said that there are currently no plans for a new price increase, but the autumn budget process could change the situation.
