At 1 PM, the police received a report of a serious traffic accident at the 168th kilometer of the Tallinn-Narva highway. Two people died in the incident.
The police stated that a Kia passenger car was parked on the roadside in the direction of Narva. The car began to reverse but the driver failed to check if it was safe. The car collided with a truck. The Kia driver and passenger died at the scene.
The truck driver was sober and had a valid driver's license. He did not require first aid.
The police noted that all participants were using safety equipment. The road was wet at the accident site, and it was raining. The maximum permitted speed was 90 km/h.
Traffic has now reopened in both directions. The police are conducting a thorough investigation of the accident.
Two more accidents occurred in the same area on the same day. In one accident, a vehicle collided with a police car.
At 2:17 PM, the police received another report of an accident on the Saka-Ontika-Toila road. A BMW driver lost control and collided with a truck. Both vehicles ended up in a field. The BMW driver was intoxicated and was taken to the hospital. The truck driver did not require medical attention. The police are also investigating this accident.
