Tallinn wants to make the area under the Pärnu maantee viaduct more beautiful. Currently, the place is gray and dull. The city wants to create colorful paintings and graffiti there.
Deputy Mayor Kristjan Järvan says that street art will help improve the place. The paintings will also help showcase Estonian culture and history.
In the project, artists will have the freedom to create. However, their works must fit the city's overall image. The paintings must be calm, as the viaduct is located near an important road.
The inspiration comes from Estonian history and culture. For example, the War of Independence, Kalevipoeg, and the Estonian language. The paintings must reflect the uniqueness of the place.
The paintings will cover an area of 450 square meters. This is near Tehnika Street, Koidu Street, and Tallinna Ühisgümnaasium. Before painting, the city will prepare the surfaces.
Artists can submit their ideas in June. A committee will select the best designs. Work will begin in July. Artists must complete the paintings by August.
