Tarmo Pärn, a vegetable grower from Võhma, has been growing cucumbers for the Põltsamaa food industry for 20 years. The spring was cold and rainy, so he started the cucumber harvest only after Midsummer.
Tarmo Pärn says the harvest is not yet large. He hopes it will improve in August. Cucumbers need warmth and rain to grow. This year the weather has been unstable.
Pärn has to supply 80 tons of cucumbers to the Põltsamaa food industry. At the Aromella factory, over a thousand tons of cucumbers are jarred. The factory produces over a hundred different products.
The factory manager Peeter Kalmet says the Estonian cucumber season started later. If Estonian cucumbers run out, German and Finnish cucumbers will be used. But they still prefer Estonian cucumbers.
The Põltsamaa factory was recently acquired by the Estonian company Svensky Kaubandus. They have two food industry companies in Estonia: Marmiton and Aromella in Põltsamaa.
Aromella will continue with the same products the factory previously made. Some brands remained with the seller. Aromella wants to expand its product range and bring back old familiar products.
Next, Aromella wants to increase sales in Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland. For this, they will introduce a new brand to the market.
