The police announced on Tuesday that Oliver Kruuda has been removed from the wanted list. The reason for this is that the police are now in contact with him.
Hannes Kelt, who heads the economic and cybercrime department, said that Kruuda was declared wanted because the police could not get in touch with him. Now that contact has been established, there is no need to search for him anymore.
Kruuda himself said that he had already informed the police earlier that he did not live in Estonia. He said that he has been a law-abiding citizen and does not understand why he has been treated so harshly.
Kruuda has been the owner of several large companies, such as AS Kalev and Tallinna Piimatööstus. In 2020, he was found guilty of tax evasion. He moved to Ireland the same year.
In 2021, the Tartu court declared Kruuda bankrupt. This happened because he did not repay a large debt. The court also terminated the criminal proceedings in which Kruuda was involved, as they had expired.
