On Thursday, Estonian and Russian border representatives met. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the illegal border crossing. Russia did not acknowledge the border crossing.
The deputy director general of the PPA, Veiko Kommusaar, said that Russia did not provide additional information. The Russian side repeatedly pointed out that they lacked the authority to answer questions. Estonia proposed to elevate the issues to the next level.
Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that the problem is difficult to resolve. He said that Estonia must be very clear about its territory.
The PPA is monitoring the situation at the Vasknarva pier and the Narva River. The general situation on the river border is normal. The meeting took place on the Russian side of the riverbank.
On Wednesday morning, Estonian border guards saw Russian border guards on a hovercraft on the Narva River. The border guards crossed the border and moved back to the Russian side.
The head of the Eastern Prefecture Border Guard Bureau, Eerik Purgel, said that the incident was recorded by surveillance equipment. The border guard increased the number of patrols to be prepared for new incidents.
The next meeting of border representatives is planned for Thursday. Estonia expects Russia's explanation regarding the border crossing.
