Former mayor of Narva Katri Raik says that the prayer morning taking place in Narva is a political event. The event is organized by three churches together with Plaan B and the Center Party.
Katri Raik says this is a strange story. She believes that the church and power have become mixed up in Narva. Raik will not attend the event. She believes it may create additional tensions.
Urbo Vaarmann (Plaan B) says the prayer morning is a good idea. He says the city of Narva is not organizing the event nor paying for it. Vaarmann will participate in the event himself.
Narva mayor Jaan Toots (Center Party) says the city only provided spaces for rent. He says this is not a political event. Toots does not know if it was mentioned in the coalition agreement.
Pastor Dmitri Andrejev says the event is intended to bring different people together. He hopes that the city council will start working better. Andrejev says the event does not use city funds.
The Ministry of the Interior has no objections to the event. They say congregations can use the spaces. However, they recommend involving other churches as well.
