Eesti 200 rääkis eelmisel nädalal televisioonis ja sotsiaalmeedias uutest energeetikaotsustest.

It was a routine procedure
Euroopa Komisjoni hinnangul
on Paldiski vesisalvesti projekt kasulik ka naaberriikidele.
Rahastuse saamiseks
on vaja vaid valitsuse toetuskirja. Tegelikult pole selline toetuskiri midagi erilist.

To obtain funding
Eesti 200 discussed new energy decisions on television and social media last week. The government sent a letter of support to the European Commission for the construction of the Paldiski pumped hydro storage facility. This was a standard procedure.
Marek Reinaas from Eesti 200 stated that the government does not plan to do anything more to support the pumped hydro storage facility. He mentioned that the government made four important decisions. These were the reduction of onshore wind capacity, major energy projects, the gas plant tender, and the pumped hydro storage project.
The coalition agreed that Energy Minister Andres Sutt would submit a letter of support to the European Commission to secure funding for the Paldiski pumped hydro storage project. The party also informed about this on its social media channels.
According to the European Commission, the Paldiski pumped hydro storage project is also beneficial for neighboring countries. Only a letter of support from the government is needed to secure funding. In fact, such a letter of support is nothing special. Rein Vaks from the Ministry of Climate said that this is a standard procedure. Andres Veske, head of Pakri Energy Storage, added that they had already accounted for such a letter.
Priit Heinla from Elering stated that the pumped hydro storage facility is likely to receive funding from the European Commission. The question is rather how much funding will be obtained. The stronger the political pressure, the more funding will be received.
Marek Reinaas said that no other decisions have been made besides sending the letter of support. He mentioned that this is a private project, and companies must decide themselves how to proceed with the project. Additionally, he said that when the Ministry of Climate's guarantee mechanism is ready, the pumped hydro storage project could also benefit from it.
Energy expert Arvi Hamburg said that Estonia needs pumped hydro storage. He suggested that the state should invest more in storage technologies.
Lauri Tammiste from the Stockholm Environment Institute stated that Elering has underestimated the positive impact of pumped hydro storage on energy security. He believed that, based on the British system example, pumped hydro storage would bring greater benefits than gas plants.
Jarmo Ling from Elering said that assessing the impact of energy storage is complex. Different countries evaluate it differently because the needs of electricity systems vary.
