Lääneranna's new municipal government is holding cooperation negotiations. They are discussing the previous municipal leaders' decisions to close schools. For example, Virtsu School may become a six-grade school. Metsküla School may become a municipal school again, but this is not yet certain.
On Thursday, Lääneranna politicians met. They discussed education. Silvia Lotman said they are not satisfied with the old decisions. But not everything will be changed back immediately. First, they need to talk with the locals.
Metsküla School is now a private school. It is unclear whether it will remain a private school or revert to being a municipal school. The people of Virtsu want a six-grade school. This decision has been made, but more detailed discussions are still needed.
Varbla and Koonga schools may become nine-grade schools in the future. But first, they need to know how many children study there. The municipal government wants to hear local opinions.
There are different opinions about supporting Metsküla School. Currently, parents pay 50 euros per month for the school. The school also receives donations. Lotman said the municipality should support the school more.
The Terve Vald party won the Lääneranna elections. Silvia Lotman received the most votes. The court is still reviewing the old decisions to close schools. The decision will come before the end of the year.
In 2023, it was decided to close Lõpe and Metsküla schools. Varbla and Koonga schools lost grades 7-9. Virtsu School became a four-grade primary school. Now, all of this may change.
