The police deported Russian citizen Leonid Karabeskin from Estonia. The spokesperson for the Defense League, Marta Tuul, stated that Karabeskin had connections with Russian special services. He visited Russia regularly and met with them.
Several people he met with are on the sanctions lists of the European Union and Ukraine. Karabeskin is associated with influence operations, such as CIRP, RuBaltic, and Regnum.
Karabeskin worked as a reporter for Russian-language radio news at ERR. His employment contract ended by mutual agreement. The chairman of ERR’s board, Erik Roose, said that nothing suspicious was noticed during his work.
Marta Tuul stated that Karabeskin’s activities were systematic. He shared information with Russian special services about the Russian-speaking population living in Estonia. The police deported him to protect Estonia’s and Europe’s security.
