The war in Ukraine has lasted five years. It is now longer than World War I. Russia has done a lot of work and suffered heavy losses, but its main goals have not been met.
Over the past week, military activity has decreased. However, Ukrainian strikes have caused problems in Crimea and other Russian-occupied regions. Russia is not willing to negotiate with Ukraine unless the conditions are theirs.
Ukrainian President Zelensky wrote an open letter to Russian President Putin. He said the war situation has changed and called on Russia to negotiate. Putin responded that a meeting is not necessary at this time. Putin said Russian forces control large parts of the Luhansk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov reiterated that the war in Ukraine is a plan by Western countries. He said the West wants to weaken Russia. Lavrov said Russia was willing to compromise, but the US did not force Ukraine to accept them.
About 250 battles took place on the front line every day. This is the same as three weeks ago. Russia captured 15 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory during the week.
The most battles took place in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole areas. There were also many battles in the directions of Lyman, Kostiantynivka, and Sloviansk. Russian troops advanced in these directions.
Ukrainian forces carried out counterattacks in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. They advanced slightly in the direction of Borova and in the western part of the Zaporizhzhia region.
Russia loses an average of 1,400 soldiers every day. Russian forces attacked Ukrainian energy, industrial, agricultural, transport, and civilian facilities in eight regions.
Ukraine attacked Russian military facilities and roads up to 300 km from the front line. These attacks reduced military supplies by 71%. Russian forces also banned the movement of goods on some roads.
Ukraine also attacked the Chonhar Bridge to prevent the movement of goods to Crimea. This made the route longer and slower. Ukrainian forces also attacked the bridge between Henichesk and the Arabat Spit.
There are now restrictions on fuel sales in Crimea. Public transport operates less. People do not want to vacation in Crimea as much as before. Hotel bookings have decreased by 31%.
Ukraine attacked oil refineries in Russia's Samara, Leningrad, Vladimir, Volgograd, and Rostov regions. They also attacked military facilities in the Krasnodar Krai and Crimea. These attacks caused fuel problems in Russia.
