The Riigikogu did not approve the no-confidence motion against Education Minister Kristina Kallas. The opposition accused the minister of poor implementation of education reforms.
Vadim Belobrovtsev (Center Party) said that the reforms were too hasty and confusing. School leaders and students are concerned because the new rules are unclear.
Belobrovtsev also spoke about higher education funding. He said that the lack of money threatens free higher education.
Kristina Kallas responded that Estonia's education system is successful. She said that many children leave school at the age of 16 because they have difficulties with learning. The new rules will help these children.
Kallas apologized that the new information system was not completed on time. She promised that it would be operational by 2026.
22 members of the Riigikogu voted in favor of no-confidence. 51 votes would have been needed for the motion to pass.
