Õnnetuse üksikasju uuritakse koostöös riigilaevastiku ja ohutusjuurdluskeskusega. Uppunud kaater on veel mere põhjas. Kindlustus teeb otsuse selle edasise saatuse osas.
Piirivalvejuht Veiko Kommusaar ütles, et kaater maksis mitu miljonit eurot. Kaater abistas Kreeka rannikuvalve tööd.

The border guards involved in the boat accident in Greece returned to Estonia on Sunday. They still need some time to recover from their injuries.
The accident occurred on March 16 near Megisti Island. Three Estonian border guards, a local border guard, and the Estonian ambassador to Greece were at sea. The boat sank, and four people were taken to the hospital. Two border guards sustained more serious injuries. The ambassador was less severely injured.
The details of the accident are being investigated in cooperation with the state fleet and the safety investigation center. The sunken boat is still at the bottom of the sea. The insurance company will decide its further fate.
Border Guard Chief Veiko Kommusaar said the boat cost several million euros. The boat was assisting the work of the Greek coast guard.
Now in Estonia, the navigation season is beginning. The border guard needs a new vessel to ensure maritime safety. Kommusaar said work is underway to find solutions.
The accident does not affect Estonia's participation in the Frontex mission of the European Union Border Guard Agency in the Mediterranean. Estonian officials participate in joint operations when it is winter at home.
Estonian officials participate in Frontex joint operations across Europe every year. This year, for example, they are participating in Bulgaria, Italy, and Malta. The use of equipment is decided in cooperation with various parties.
