Isamaa esimees Urmas Reinsalu ütleb, et uus valitsus peab kuulama kaitseväge. Ta kritiseerib kaitseministrit Hanno Pevkurit.
Isamaa chairman Urmas Reinsalu says that the new government must listen to the Defense Forces. He criticizes Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur.
Urmas Reinsalu is the chairman of Isamaa. He says that the new government must listen to the commander of the Defense Forces. The commander of the Defense Forces, Martin Herem, gave good advice. But the Defense Forces were not listened to.
Reinsalu says that Herem recommended purchasing ammunition. The ammunition costs 1.6 billion euros. But Pevkur did not take it seriously. Reinsalu wrote to Pevkur in June 2023. He said that ammunition is needed. But Pevkur replied that there is no money.
Reinsalu says that Pevkur tried to avoid talking about ammunition. Herem publicly stated that there is a lack of ammunition. But Pevkur did nothing. Herem and Kusti Salm resigned. Pevkur said that new loans cannot help the country.
Reinsalu says that Pevkur changed his mind. Now Pevkur supports purchasing ammunition. But he wants to do it only in 2025-2031. Reinsalu says that ammunition is needed sooner. Magnus Saar said that ammunition can be purchased by 2028.
Reinsalu says that Pevkur lied. Pevkur said that the commander of the Defense Forces did not ask for ammunition. Then Pevkur said that there is no money. Pevkur admitted to ERR that ammunition can be purchased by 2027.
Reinsalu says that Pevkur does not understand the needs of the country. Reinsalu advises the new government to replace Pevkur. He says: «The Defense Minister cannot handle national defense. This is a threat to our security.»
