<p>Urmas Reinsalu, the chairman of Isamaa, said that the new government should follow the recommendations of the Commander of the Defense Forces. He stated on social media that the Commander of the Defense Forces, Martin Herem, provided necessary recommendations, but they were not implemented. Reinsalu said: «The Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur has not been able to make crucial decisions in national defense.»</p><p>Reinsalu said that the Commander of the Defense Forces recommended purchasing ammunition worth 1.6 billion euros. However, Pevkur did not take this seriously. Reinsalu recalled that he himself wrote to Pevkur in June 2023, stating that the purchase of ammunition was necessary. However, Pevkur responded that the money was needed elsewhere.</p><p>Reinsalu said that Pevkur tried to conceal the need for ammunition. Although the Commander of the Defense Forces, Martin Herem, publicly spoke about the shortage of ammunition, Pevkur did not act. Reinsalu added that Herem and the Chancellor of the Ministry of Defense, Kusti Salm, resigned in protest. Pevkur said that new loans cannot help the country.</p><p>Reinsalu said that Pevkur later changed his position. Now he supports the purchase of ammunition for 1.6 billion euros, but plans to do so only in the years 2025-2031. Reinsalu criticized this because the ammunition is needed sooner. He said that the director of the Center for Defense Investments, Magnus Saar, stated that with the necessary funds, the ammunition could be purchased by 2028.</p><p>Reinsalu said that Pevkur has told several lies. First, he said that the Commander of the Defense Forces did not request ammunition. Then he said that there was no money. Finally, he admitted to ERR that with the necessary funds, the ammunition could be purchased by 2027.</p><p>Reinsalu said that the Minister of Defense Pevkur is unable to understand the country's security needs. Reinsalu advised the new government coalition to recognize Pevkur's incompetence and replace him. He said: «The Minister of Defense has not been able to act effectively in national defense. This is a threat to our security.»</p>
