Nõgene and Rebane find a funding model for ERR
Paavo Nõgene ja Raul Rebane räägivad ERR-i nõukogu teemadest.
Paavo Nõgene and Raul Rebane discuss topics related to the ERR council.
The Riigikogu Cultural Committee selected Paavo Nõgene and Raul Rebane as members of the ERR council. Their confirmation will take place on May 14.
Nõgene said that ERR employees should be able to do their work professionally. He emphasized that the organization should support and value them.
Rebane said that public broadcasting is very important, especially in a small country like Estonia. He noted that reliable information is needed more because there is too much information.
Both spoke about the need to change ERR's funding. The current model is not good. A new model is needed that does not require applying for new money every year.
Nõgene said that ERR also faces technological tasks and needs to be prepared for crises. He emphasized that ERR must highlight essential services.
Rebane said that the role of public broadcasting must be explained to both the public and politicians. He emphasized that it is not state media but a public service.
Rebane added that public broadcasting is necessary, especially during the movement of information. People seek reliable information and it must be cherished like the apple of the eye.
The ERR council includes one representative from each Riigikogu faction and four experts. Their mandates last for five years. The new members will replace Peeter Espak and Viktor Trasberg.
