The dangerous section of the Tallinn-Tartu highway at the Paia intersection will be expanded to four lanes. The Imavere curve will be removed, and the intersection will become grade-separated. The works will be completed by the end of 2027.
The head of the Transport Administration, Erki Mikenberg, said that the works will take place between Mäo and Imavere. The works will be carried out on a four-kilometer section. The existing road will remain as a collector road, and the Paia junction will be created.
The construction project is already being prepared. The start of the works is planned for December of this year. Before the works begin, preparations will be made, land will be acquired, and tenders will be organized. The works will cost 20 million euros. The works are expected to be completed in 2027.
The Minister of Infrastructure, Kuldar Leis, said that the state will allocate 96.8 million euros for road construction. The funds will come from the European Union and the state's supplementary budget. The money will be used for the construction of the Tallinn-Pärnu and Tallinn-Tartu highways.
The European Commission's approval for the use of funds will come in the autumn. Leis believes there will be no issues. The preparation for the works will begin immediately.
