Tallinn deputy mayor Kristjan Järvan said that there are no plans to repair the tram track on Tartu Road.
"Tartu Road has recently been renovated. Right now we are focusing on Liivalaia Street, which also has a tram track. Tram tracks are constantly being updated," said Järvan.
Järvan added that road renewal is an ongoing process. There is a lot of work for the city to do.
Tallinn Environment and Public Works Department head Aksel Johannes Part said that the space on Tartu Road needs to be changed.
"The current space is not modern. Bike lanes should meet contemporary needs. Tram traffic could be better," said Part.
Part noted that the reconstruction of Tartu Road is not in the five-year plan. There is not enough financial strength. It should be planned in the next investment cycle.
"Tartu Road is a very usable street. The conditions need to be improved," said Part.
In the future, separate bike lanes are needed. On Tartu Road, pedestrian conditions need to be reviewed.
"At intersections, we allocate road space for pedestrians and greenery. This makes the environment safer," said Part.
Work on the intersection of Tartu Road and Liivalaia is still in development. In the initial plan, the intersection is better than it is now.
