Eesti füsioterapeudid ja läbipõlemine
Estonian Physiotherapists and Burnout
Uuring Tartu Ülikoolist näitab, et paljud Eesti füsioterapeudid kogevad läbipõlemist. See mõjutab nii tööd kui isiklikku elu.
A study from the University of Tartu shows that many physiotherapists in Estonia experience burnout. This affects both work and personal life.
Two-thirds of Estonian physiotherapists have experienced burnout to some extent. A quarter of female physiotherapists have gone through it in multiple areas of life. A study by the University of Tartu showed that nearly half of them exhibit signs of burnout in at least one area.
Burnout is not only related to work. It can also manifest in other areas of life, says researcher Christi Ojaste. Ojaste used the Copenhagen Questionnaire to measure burnout.
The study involved 90 female physiotherapists. Half of them showed signs of burnout in their personal lives. Professionally, about half exhibited signs, and a third in relation to patients.
Women experience burnout the most in their personal lives. The reasons for this may include the role of a parent and societal expectations.
Professionally, the burnout score was lower. The score was the lowest in relation to patients. Ojaste says that the patient is not the most exhausting aspect. Working with documents and teamwork can be more challenging.
The study also included people who showed no signs of burnout. However, there were also those who scored very high. A third of the respondents had no signs in any area.
Physiotherapists are attentive to their patients' health but do not always notice their own burnout. The study showed that about two-thirds exhibited signs, although 80% said they rarely feel it.
Physiotherapists could be offered more flexibility in their working hours. Ojaste recommends talking more about the signs of burnout and methods of relief.
Burnout should not be underestimated. It affects the health of employees and the quality of services. Healthcare workers must be supported, otherwise, we may not have enough healthcare workers in the future.
