The first competitions in the indoor axe throwing hall in Mäetaguse took place five and a half years ago. Initially, there were eight lanes in the hall. Now there are 12 lanes. In addition, there are 10 more lanes on the outdoor field.
Marek Peet is the center's manager. He says this is the largest axe throwing complex in the world. Estonians are among the best in axe throwing globally.
The center has helped athletes train better. Maarika Lepik is the Estonian champion. She says better training opportunities have helped improve results. She wants to bring the world championships to Estonia.
The renovation of the center cost 76,000 euros. The majority of the funding came from the Just Transition Fund. Marek Peet invites people to visit the center. He wants people to see what they are doing.
Maarika Lepik works as a math teacher. She says people are surprised when they hear about her hobby. Axe throwing is a sport that can be practiced for a lifetime. It's a good way to let off steam.
