Several municipalities said on social media that the announcement of election results may be delayed. According to the state election commission, this may not happen until the last week of November.
The head of the election service, Arne Koitmäe, said that the large number of complaints takes time. He said that most of the complaints concern electronic voting.
Koitmäe said that the election commission is reviewing another complaint. This complaint was sent back from the Supreme Court for reconsideration. Within three days, the commission must submit its decision to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has seven days to review the complaint.
Koitmäe said that the review of all complaints may end in the last week of November. He said that the complaints fall into two categories. Some concern the results of local government elections. Others concern electronic voting.
The head of court communications, Kristi Kirsberg, said that complaints submitted to the Supreme Court may be reviewed by the end of next week.
The convening of new compositions of many municipal councils awaits the announcement of election results. Village and city governments cannot yet take office.
The spokesperson for the state election service, Kadri Masing, said last week that the timing for announcing election results is still unknown. This is because some court cases are still pending and complaints are being handled.
Local government council elections were held in Estonia on October 19th. 59.2% of eligible citizens participated in the elections.
