Viru County Court convicted a 45-year-old man of raping two underage girls. The man was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
In addition, the man was accused of producing child pornography and violence against close ones. The man must also pay 20,000 euros to the two girls for their mental suffering.
Prosecutor Saskia Kask said that if no one had reported to the police, the man would not have been convicted. She emphasized that in such cases, it is important to speak to the police.
The head of the Ida Prefecture's child protection group, Jelena Roos, said that the police responded immediately to the tip. The man appeared outwardly as a good father, but in reality, he committed sexual crimes against children.
Prosecutor Saskia Kask said that crimes against children often occur at home, where the child should feel safe. She stressed that such crimes are not just a family matter but also concern the community. If you see a child who may be in distress, report it immediately. A small piece of information can save a child's life.
