The state-owned company Saarte Liinid manages small ports. They want another state-owned company, TS Laevad, to pay more money. TS Laevad organizes ferry traffic to large islands.
Saarte Liinid is demanding nearly 400,000 euros from TS Laevad. This money is for the transport of dangerous goods. For example, fuel, military items, and explosives.
The dispute began a year and a half ago. Saarte Liinid started demanding money for things they had not previously charged for. TS Laevad did not pay these invoices. They said the invoices were incorrect.
TS Laevad's director Indrek Randveer says the problem lies in the 2016 contract. The question is whether all transports are covered by the contract or not.
The dispute continues until TS Laevad's old contract expires. A new contract will begin soon. The new contract resolves this issue.
Another interesting point is that the son of Saarte Liinid's lawyer works at TS Laevad. Both parties say this does not affect the dispute.
Saarte Liinid has already spent 10,000 euros in court. TS Laevad does not disclose how much they have spent. But they have allocated 62,000 euros for legal disputes.
Both companies' boards include a state representative. He did not speak to the press because he is on vacation.
