The Reform Party and Eesti 200 will begin negotiations on a coalition agreement on Saturday. Kristina Kallas says that the distribution of portfolios is not just the division of four ministries.
On Wednesday, the leaders of the Reform Party and Eesti 200 gathered. They discussed the coalition agreement. Kristen Michal and Erkki Keldo (Reform Party) and Kristina Kallas and Margus Tsahkna (Eesti 200) will begin negotiations. A small group was chosen for faster work.
Michal said that they will make a preliminary agreement. It outlines the principles of the coalition. He mentioned security and economy. Kallas added that discussions on reform plans will last two months.
In the second stage, experts and interest groups will be involved. Michal hopes that the preliminary agreement will be completed within two weeks. It will outline the directions of work and distribute ministerial portfolios.
Kallas said that the portfolios will not be divided simply as 2+2. She emphasized that they will look at who has the best ideas for reforms. Tsahkna said that there should be fewer ministers in the government. He mentioned the possible merger of the Social Protection Minister and Health Minister positions.
Changes need to be made in the Riigikogu as heads of commissions. Õnne Pillak said that they will move at a calm pace for a couple of weeks. The negotiations on Saturday will focus on increasing defense capabilities.
