Such a system is used in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. Estonia also wants to use it. Hellika Kallaste says it helps people quickly understand nutritional value.
Currently, it is being discussed whether the system would be voluntary. Kallaste says the final decision will be made after discussions. Currently, nutritional information is on the packaging, but it is often difficult to find and understand.
The labeling does not account for all details, such as animal welfare or pesticides. It is based solely on nutritional information. It does not replace dietary recommendations but helps make quick choices.
Kallaste says the system could help companies in competition. Positive labeling may attract more customers. Not all companies may use it, but some are interested.
