There was heavy rain during the night. One embankment dam broke, and water began to flow. The water overflowed from Tikste Lake and went over the Tikste dam. It flooded several houses.
Municipal mayor Kalle Vister said that eight people were evacuated in the morning. No one was injured. Later, the Tikste dam also broke. This made the water flow even stronger.
All rescue teams are on site. They are helping people and pumping out water. People are in a safe place. The police are redirecting traffic. The Road Administration is quickly making a plan on how to organize traffic.
The municipality is placing concrete barriers on the damaged road. This helps prevent dangerous situations. The road needs to be repaired. The municipal mayor is discussing the sidewalk with the Road Administration.
