The Development Monitoring Center will present a new report on Wednesday. The report is titled "Sustainability of Healthcare. Scenarios until 2035". It discusses the major problems of Estonia's healthcare. The report can be viewed on the ERR website.
The Health Insurance Fund is running out of money. Every year, 100 million euros more are spent than received. Currently, savings from previous years are being used. But these funds will run out in 2029 or 2030.
If no money is found, healthcare services will have to be reduced. The experience of other countries shows that this will worsen people's health.
The problem is that there is little money coming from social tax. At the same time, healthcare costs are growing rapidly. People are aging, healthcare workers' salaries are rising, and new medicines are expensive.
The report offers solutions on how to improve funding. It analyzes how different choices affect the country's finances and people's healthcare.
The report also includes a frightening scenario. It shows what will happen if we do nothing.
The report will be presented by Kaupo Koppel and Andres Võrk. Comments will be provided by Karmen Joller, Marja-Liisa Alop, and Andres Piirsalu. The presentation will be moderated by Tea Danilov.
