On Tuesday, the Ministry of Education announced that it would investigate the incident and find the cause. By now, there is more clarity about the cause of the problem.
Marit Teras, an employee of the Ministry of Education, said that the academic test was conducted on several days. The results of the March 28 test were received by everyone, but there were problems with the April 11 test.
On Monday, preparation of the protocol for entering the results began. The system did not show warnings or prevent the action. Since there were no results yet, the system mistakenly treated them as missing, and the protocol was confirmed without results.
Marit Teras said that this problem was not the same as last year. Last year, an archived test was copied, and the protocol's characteristics were carried over during the copying. This error was corrected.
The Ministry of Education is working to resolve the issue and will implement additional control mechanisms in the future to avoid similar situations.
544 candidates were admitted to the university through the academic test. This year, the University of Tartu will welcome nearly 2700 new students.
