Aili Kiin has worked for over 50 years in education, culture, and language. She has taught, trained, and supported young people. Kiin has written over ten educational materials. She is also a curriculum developer and a member of professional societies.
At the end-of-year gala, the best teachers were recognized. For example, Teele Saar was named Kindergarten Teacher of the Year. Kaiel Altpere is the Classroom Teacher of the Year. Eve Paap is the Gymnasium Teacher of the Year. Veiko Belials is the Vocational Teacher of the Year.
All the best teachers received a 10,000 euro prize. Aili Kiin received 65,000 euros as a lifetime achievement award. All nominees were also given financial prizes. Teachers received the traditional Joosep figurine and cuckoo clocks as awards.
The Teacher of the Year competition began in March. Over 1,600 candidates were received. Regional and higher education commissions selected the finalists. The national commission selected three nominees from each category. Over 200 teachers and education workers participated in the awards gala.
The gala took place at the Pärnu Concert Hall. This was the 13th time the best teachers were recognized in Estonia.
